Join An Online Support Group

Sometimes it’s not possible, or even preferable to attend a face-to-face support group. Especially with social distancing restrictions, it can be difficult to access peer support groups.

During the first lockdown of 2020, we decided to pilot our online peer support groups. These groups take place via Zoom and are hosted by trained Peer Support Leaders.

While the thought of joining a group on a video call can seem daunting, please rest assured that these groups are very informal and welcoming. You will not be pressured to share or talk if you don’t want to.

How do online peer support groups work?

Our online groups operate in much the same way as our face-to-face groups. Everyone finds a quiet space with a cup of tea or coffee, joins the call, and chats with the other parents in the group. You will be asked to complete a registration and consent form before you join your first call. The Peer Support Leader will then contact you with details on how to join the call and what you can expect from the call.

We keep the groups small, usually around 8 people, to allow everyone the time and space to share or offer support if they wish.

We also run a private support group on Facebook. This is a place to share your experiences, seek support, ask for advice or support others. Only other group members can see your posts but if you wish to post anonymously, you can ask an admin to post on your behalf. Be sure to answer the joining questions when you request to join.
